I feel like i have finally recovered from probably the most stressful day of my floristry life, so can finally share this story...
The most beautiful white summer blooms arrived for a wedding for the most gorgeous bride. Do happy dance, pretty chuffed with the flower choice. So excited to create this wedding with phally orchids, peonies, hydrangeas, basically all of the good stuff! Feeling nice and organised, so strip and care for flowers, make bridesmaids bouquets and put all of the flowers to bed in the cool room.
Wake up the next morning and spend a couple of hours at the beach with my boys. Come back to the studio to casually check on the flowers. Think to myself, hmmm the delphinium looks a little translucent... touch delphinium, heart sinks, flowers are FROZEN.
Now, you may not have experienced a frozen flower before, because well, why would have you?!. Let me tell you, this is NOT GOOD. $3000 worth of the prettiest flowers turning into mush for a wedding the next day.
Okay, I think FFFFF panic sets in, what do I do? I Can't go to market tomorrow morning and drive back in time to get to the Hunter Valley in time... let me tell you what you do, you message the absolute best group of flowers babes you could possibly ask for.
Rach heads to flower HQ to collect every single white flower she can find, Elissa offers up a bucket of delicious white garden roses, Ash offers up all of the dried goods, Megan offers her skills and foraging, Erin at Peter Herd Florist offers up more roses and time to recreate bouquets.
Not only did these babes go out of their way to come through with the goods, they had the flowers prepped, stripped and ready to go for me.
The next morning we deliver and create a stunning wedding, no one would have ever known what had just unfolded within the last 12 hours.
The moral of this story - so lucky to have such an amazing group of florists friends who have your back when you're in a pickle. Community over competition.
